Damien Jurado is a Seattle-based singer-songwriter known for intimate, character-driven indie-folk and rock with a melancholic tone. Emerging in the mid-90s, he signed to Sub Pop Records before finding acclaim on Secretly Canadian, and is currently on his own label, Maraqopa Records. Often compared to a musical Raymond Carver, his prolific career spans over 20 albums, exploring themes of quiet desperation and storytelling.

Tapers notes: To say I was looking forward to this show would be an understatement. Damien Jurado has become one of my favorite songwriters over the last 10 years or so, and I had yet to see him before this show. Late last year he said he was no longer touring the coutry, and would only be playing shows in the PNW. Although I was bummed, I am out in Oregon with some regularity, so I figured I'd just plan a trip based around a show. To my surprise he announced dates in the midwest not long after that, so I jumped on a ticket to this show immediately. As with any favorite artist, there are always songs you wish they would play, but I was completely thrilled with this setlist regardless, more than half of them I knew by heart and would put on my fantasy setlist, so the drive home I was on cloud nine! I will still make a trip to see him out in the Oregon area at some point, but I was glad to check this off my bucket list in the meantime. Sound wise I was pleased with how it came out, there is virtually no crowd noise other than applause, there was a real respect for both Damien and the opener St. Yuma, so that always makes it easier to get a good recording.

I'm travelin' light and I'm slow coming home"
