Hardwood Groove is rooted in Detroit Lakes, MN with three members living in the FM area. Their music style ranges from bluegrass and folk to jazz and rock. Their forte is original music with an improvisational twist. This band of Midwest jammers take inspiration from a myriad of genres. Funk, rock, blues, Americana, and others combine into an electrified show with a focus on improvisation. Sweet harmonies will open your heart while dueling guitars, wailing sax, and a tight rhythm section will have you grooving all night.

Tapers notes: Set 4/10 from Muskie Days 2023. This is an audience recording only. The Muskie Days sound guy sent me SBD recordings of all the sets, but unfortunately this set was an .MP3 file. I have reached out to him to see if I can get a .WAV file, but have mixed the .MP3 file and my audience recording in the meantime and posted it to Archive.org in Community Audio if anyone is interested. The link can be found above.
The band did send me a .WAV of their SBD recording, but it started late in to the show, and I didn't feel having a MATRIX that was missing that much of the SBD portion was worth mixing. That being said, this is a pretty good recording, the crowd was a little, ahem, altered, by this point (show started at 11pm), but for the most part, this is a pretty quiet recording in terms of crowd chatter. Really good setlist, the highlight for me was the 4+ minute sax solo on the last track. I never thought of the sax as an instrument I would enjoy a long solo of, but Keith Thornby killed it, really cool stuff.
