Feed the Dog is an eclectic and action-packed, experimental jam-grass act. The midwest based 4-piece masterfully blends soul-pleasing songwriting rich in imagery and storytelling with a genre bending, shake-your-hips, instrumental flair. Their high energy performances are driven by the unique and progressive approach of each player: imaginative melodies with graceful ambiance skillfully crafted on the violin, tireless beats both dynamic and soulful confidently assembled on the drums, driving low end with finesse and intention forged on the bass guitar, and unique approach to playing the acoustic guitar blending fast picking bluegrass runs with the strength of blues and rock to evoke an emotional contrast between melancholy and hopeful.

Tapers notes: I first saw Feed the Dog last summer at a music festival, and really enjoyed their sound, so when I saw them pop up with Buffalo Galaxy at one of my favorite venues, I jumped on it. The recording here is so-so, this was supposed to be a SBD/AUD mix, and the SBD portion didn't work out. Anticipating this being a mixed recording, I set my mics up in a position to get the best combination of crowd reaction and music, so it's not optimized for a strict AUD recording. This started a run of like 3 or 4 shows that the SBD portion of my recording didn't work for one reason or another, very frustrating. But, it's still a listenable recording, and Feed the Dog's setlist is ridiculously good.

Tapers notes: When I bought these tickets I thought High & Rising was the main act, so when I saw the Sweet Lillies were actually the headliner, I was a little disappointed. That disappointment didn't last long, that's for sure. High & Rising was amazing as usual, and when The Sweet Lillies took the stage I kept an open mind. Thankfully I did, because this band is really impressive, and I'm already looking forward to seeing them again when they pass through here again. They definitely have a unique sound, and the billing with High & Rising was a perfect fit. Thanks to Jack for allowing me to plug in to the board and being helpful in general.

Pants ½ Off is neither half full or half empty. It also is not your discounted jeans but a nice pair of slacks you clumsily slip on as you wake up to the sun just peeking over the Blue Hills in Rusk County WI. Playing folk music entangled in modern melodies and sometimes psychedelic jams, Pants ½ Off brings emotion to the songs that are inspired by their geography. Although the band name might be a play on words, the band adds a serious tone to their songs that originate from the soul.

The band consists of 5 folks, each of who has their own "private practice" in the singer/songwriter industry. That's fancy speak for when Pants 1/2 Off aren't performing go and check out Chad Kostner, Kayla Zoltak, Seth Gamble, Julie Kittleson, and Jason Chaffee in their respective solo projects or playing around town in other ensembles.

Tapers notes: To say this night was a disappointment would be an understatement. Sound issues were present basically from the start of the night. During The Vonkillinger Band set it wasn't too bad, a few flaws here and there, but during Pants Half Off set it started to worsen. Popping, feedback, etc. pops up pretty frequently during their set. By the time Feeding Leroy's set came around, I wasn't too hopeful. Unfortunately, I was right to feel that way, there were major sound issues throughout, and one point they stopped the set for 5-10 minutes to try to figure it out, to no success. After track 7, the band unplugged completely and performed the rest of the set that way. Which would have been a neat experience except for the fact I had tried to get the best seat for taping, which made it almost unlistenbable once they stopped using the PA. I have not included their set as it's very inconsistent sounding and IMO not worth sharing.
