Monday, December 22nd at 12:30 pm, award-winning singer/pianist/actor Alicia Witt will celebrate the holidays at Electric Fetus with an in-store performance! Following her performance, Alicia will sign copies of I Think I'm Spending Christmas With You on vinyl and CD. This event is free and open to all ages.

I Think I'm Spending Christmas With You is Alicia Witt's 7th release and debut as solo producer. It includes her original renditions of Christmas classics like “O Holy Night,” “The First Noel,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” alongside nine new original holiday songs, including the title track.

Tapers notes: My last recording of 2025, and it was deinitely a fun one. I knew of Alicia more from her acting, but I really enjoyed her Christmas album, so I was excited when I saw this show pop up. She was in town to play a full band show at the Dakota later that night, but at this in-store appearance it was just her and a keyboard, but that was really all that was needed, her voice carried the songs just fine. 2025 was a fun year in music, I made my 500th recording, saw some new artists, spent time with artists I've known for years, and met some great people along the way. Looking forward to 2026, I've already got a handful of shows on the list!

The Hook and Ladder Theater is proud to again host this very special, intimate Holiday Blues Show with the one and only Cornbread Harris and Friends on Thursday, December 18th at The Hook and Ladder Theater.

James Samuel “Cornbread” Harris, Sr. (born April 23, 1927) is an American musician and Twin Cities legend. The Cornbread, as he often refers to himself, has been playing blues, boogie-woogie and rock n roll piano for Twin Cities audiences for decades…roughly 7 of them now. Yes, Cornbread opened for The King (Elvis). Yes, a young Cornbread appeared on MN’s first recorded rock & roll record (with Augie Garcia). Yes, Cornbread has been the recipient of numerous prestigious (Blues Hall of Fame, Sally Award, etc.) recognitions. Yes, Cornbread is Jimmy Jam’s dad.

But, the fact that Cornbread still holds down weekly and monthly gigs across the Twin Cities at restaurants like The Loring Pasta Bar and Hells Kitchen, as well as playing local music venues, weddings, churches, old folks homes and private events as often as he can, is what might just make him the most special artist in our artist-rich community.

Erik Koskinen is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, whose music is not categorized by sub-genres. Stylistically he is on his own while heavily influenced by American roots music. The rhythmic integrity and musical tone is as important as the lyrical content and the artistic intent. Koskinen has reverently entered the anthology of uniquely crafted wry songs with the likes of Woody Guthrie and Ry Cooder while speaking as plainly as your neighbor. The Minneapolis Star Tribune calls Koskinen “the real deal” and “The best country songwriter in Minnesota”

Tapers notes: Josie's vocals are down in the mix for some reason, I did some work in iZotope to rebalance them with the guitar, so it's a bit better than the original. I didn't want to go too far because at a certain point it added some digi-noise, so this is about as good as I could get it without ruining it.

Three powerhouse Minnesotan fiddlers — Rachel Calvert, Jackie Rae Daniels, and Maura Dunst — join forces to create Triple Fiddle: a collaboration of sensational triple fiddle harmonies and lusciously layered vocals. Backed by guitarist and singer-songwriter Hannah Hendrickson, this fiddle-forward trio presents soaring arrangements of originals and covers from honky tonk, swing, folk, and roots music traditions.

Tapers notes: Part of Washington County Bluegrass Festival. This was supposed to be recording 2 of 4 from this day, but it ended up being my final recording. Basically 2 minutes after this set ended, the skies opened up and I decided that was enough. By the time I got back to my car, I was soaked through my clothes, and was very thankful I had a waterproof equipment bag or it could have been worse. I wasn't familiar with this band going in, but was thrilled to see Rachel Calvert was part of the group, she's one of the best fiddle players we have in Minnesota, and it's always a treat to get a chance to see her.

The Minnesota-based Barley Jacks is comprised of front–man Brian Wicklund on fiddle and mandolin, Mike Cramer on guitar, Joel Arpin on drums, and bassists Keith Yanes, Kevin Rowe and Josh Granoski. They are jaw–dropping instrumentalists and longtime masters of the fiddle, guitar, bass and drum who meld their divergent backgrounds of blues and bluegrass, Celtic, R & B and bebop to inspire each other and create something entirely new. Their 2010 debut recording Either Side of Night and 2011 recording The Lighthouse has been met with great praise by reviewers. Virtuosity, magic and a little danger combine to make every performance unique.

Tapers notes: Part of Washington County Bluegrass Festival. This was a rough day weather wise. The day started out fine, blue skys and a bit of wind. But as it went on, the wind picked up, and it started lightly raining during this set. You can hear the wind in spots, but it actually didn't show up as often as I was thinking it would. Just something to keep in mind when listening back. The band was great, I had never heard them before, and I hope to see them again in better conditions.

Grammy nominated American musician Scarlet Rivera burned a hole in the fabric of rock history as a pioneer of electric violin. From a classical background she bent the accepted norms by experimenting with all genres of music from Rock Fusion and Jazz to Latin polyrhythms and Celtic. She was a revolutionary from the start. Bob Dylan was the first to discover and acknowledge Scarlet, making her as an integral part of the legendary Rolling Thunder Revue tour. This creative collaboration launched a career that has seen Scarlet perform and record with a who’s who critically acclaimed musicians, in the studio and on stages around the globe. These days Scarlet is leaning notably into her work in film music. Throughout her career Scarlet has been a performer on soundtracks and composer for films and now she is focusing even more on the opportunities that are coming her way.

The journey of expression and creativity never stops for Scarlet Rivera with new music to compose and record and performances to give throughout the world.

Steve Conte first became known to the music industry in the early 1990s as the songwriter and guitarist of the band Company of Wolves (Mercury Records). After the Wolves' breakup in 1992, he went on to form the band Crown Jewels with John Conte, and in 2003, the pair made an album under the name The Contes. In 2004, Steve Conte joined the New York Dolls as a guitarist and vocalist, where he would remain until 2010, when he joined Michael Monroe's new band.

Conte has performed with Etta James, Charlie Musselwhite, James Cotton, Johnny Adams, Reese Wynans (Stevie Ray Vaughan), Phoebe Snow, Cyndi Lauper, John Waite, Richie Hayward (Little Feat), Will Lee, Lou Marini (The Blues Brothers), Carole King, The Uptown Horns, Steve Clark (Def Leppard), and many others.

**************************
Tapers notes: I saw Scarlet a few years back at the same concert series, they were both supposed to be outdoors, and both ended up moving inside due to weather. Regardless, she is always worth the 3 hour drive up there, her connection with Dylan is what most people know of her, but she's a fabulous musician in her own right. This show was originally supposed to include Chris Mulkey, but there was a scheduling conflict, so Steve Conte stepped in at the last minute and did a great job.

Galactic Cowboy Orchestra was started in 2009 by founding member/bass player John Wright. The band was born out of a desire to play technically challenging music derived from John’s influences ranging from Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Dixie Dregs and King Crimson, to name a few. Wright enlisted the aid of guitarist Dan Neale, who brought to the table many deep Jazz influences in his advanced playing and composing style. Along with the band’s first drummer, Mark O'Day, the beginnings of Galactic Cowboy Orchestra were found. Soon after, violinist (and John’s wife) Lisi Wright joined the band with her aggressive "electric guitar player plays violin" style and engaging stage presence to complete the band’s sound and look. Fast forward 16 years: 6 studio releases (and one live), 3 Downbeat Nominations, a Minnesota Arts Tour Grant, collaborations with symphony orchestras, thousands of miles of touring and the band is just getting started.

Tapers notes: I'm always amazed at the amount of quality free shows there are during the summer. The area I live in is blessed to have so many concert in the park series, free music festivals, free fair shows, patio show at restaurants, etc. Galactic Cowboy Orchestra is a band I first saw at one of those free events (Lakeside Guitar Festival) and have seen a few times since. This type of music is definitely not for everyone, it tends to be very experimental and doesn't always have a structure, but for those who get in to that style of music, this band is such a treat. Sound on this one is great, no obvious flaws that I heard.

Tapers notes: Sound quality on this one is excellent, a few spots where the cicadas get a bit loud, but otherwise no real flaws. This was the first year I had been to this particular venue, but I'm already looking forward to next year's schedule, it's such a great place to see a concert.

Tapers notes: Part of Earth Rider Fest. This was a fun set to end the night. There was supposed to be a few more bands that played this day, but the weather forced them to reconfigure their schedule. But, it was still a fun day all around, and Erik is always worth the price of admission. Included in the band this night was Kora Melia, a fiddle player from Houghton, MI, where Erik lived at one point and still travels back to regularly. She added a great sound to an already great group, and seems to be a semi-regular part of Erik's band going forward. Setlist wise, a lot of standard Erik songs, but "Free Money" is a song he said he hadn't played in many years, and I don't see it on any setlists of shows I've recorded, so that was pretty cool. Bernie Larsen from Cry on Cue joined the set about halfway through and added to the festive feel of the night.

In a perfect musical world, somewhere between the percussive rhythms of Jamaica and the melody of commercial radio, the balance of these two very distinctly different places would merge, producing yet another hybrid of cultures accessible to those prone to singing along and those prone to movement. For the American-based reggae band Cry on Cue, a life-long influence of these two elements breeds a style of music that, with the exception of a handful of 'island' treated covers from the past that had somehow found it's way to the top 40, has still to be cultivated since the death of Bob Marley. Through the openness of college radio and the do-it-yourself attitudes of the sub-corporate independents, Cry on Cue has managed to create a growing, dedicated following. With the critically acclaimed debut album beauty of emotion and the newly released dub & sympathy, the band continues it's reign as the midwest's best-kept secret and after countless shows and some 5,000 units later, they have become more than another reggae group. Blending blues guitar within the context of consciousness, rhythm and soul melody, they have become perhaps the band to cross the bridge into that sacred ground of mainstream in America with traditional Jamaican feel.

Molly Maher is a captivating force in the realm of Americana, seamlessly traversing the rich landscapes of these genres with her unique voice and formidable guitar skills. Influenced by the evocative storytelling of Lucinda Williams, the soulful depth of Bonnie Raitt, and the gritty flair of Tony Joe White, Molly crafts music that resonates with authenticity and emotional weight.

Tapers notes: Seeing Josie at the fair is always one of the highlights of my summer, it's where she plays to her biggest crowd, and almost always pulls out one of her originals (County Fair). Weather was perfect this day other than rain for a minute (literally), and Josie sounded great as always. The past few weeks have been very difficult with all of the world news going on (Charlie Kirk in particular), and music is very healing to me. There are very few voices I listen to that are as healing as Josie's, so I really enjoyed mastering this, it helped relieve my stress level for a bit. Great sounding recording here, no flaws to speak of.

The Wallflowers are an American rock solo project of American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jakob Dylan. The Wallflowers were originally a roots rock band formed in Los Angeles by Dylan and guitarist Tobi Miller. It has undergone several personnel changes, but has remained centered on Dylan.

Tapers notes: When I was a teenager, The Wallflowers and Counting Crows were "the" bands for me, I was obssessed some might say. I was lucky enough to see Counting Crows about 20 years ago, and when I saw this show pop up I got excited and immediately booked a hotel for that weekend. My musicals tastes have expanded quite a bit since being a teen, but The Wallflowers still hold up in my opinion, they have so many quality songs. You could tell a lot of people were there for the hits, as after One Headlight about 25% of the crowd left, which was bizzare to me. To each their own I guess, I enjoyed their entire set, and they did the 2 Tom Petty covers justice. Sound here is average to above average I would say, as always listen to the sample and judge for yourself.
